Essential Responsibilities :GE Research is seeking an exceptional Principal Engineer in Thermal Management Systems.
Thermal Management Systems is a critical technology for all high-performance products in the aerospace and energy sectors.
As a Principal Engineer, you will lead the development of next-generation thermal management systems technologies to move, spread, and store thermal energy applicable to future applications in carbon-neutral flight, high-speed flight, the hydrogen economy, nuclear power, and space flight.
The Principal Engineer reports to the Technology Manager of Component Heat Transfer, Thermal Management, and Systems.
As Principal Engineer, you will be a technical leader in the Thermal Management Systems team. You will establish and maintain a thermal management systems portfolio of programs within the fields of future power and/or propulsion applications. Building on your experience and expertise, you will grow your reputation as a world-class thermal management systems researcher by developing and transitioning to application the next generation of thermal management system technologies. Partnering with the Technology Manager, you will drive a culture of systems thinking and foster the development of early-career engineers.
The Thermal Management Systems team develops innovative components, cycles, and systems for GE products and external customers.
In the Principal Engineer role, you will:
Invent and develop thermal management system technologies for future power and propulsion applications
Champion the team’s ideas with key stakeholders within GE businesses and externally to government agencies
Develop and maintain a portfolio of thermal management system programs
Grow and maintain a network of world-class collaborators within academia, government, and industry
Own the development and maintenance of technology roadmaps
Drive a culture of systems analysis and thinking
Provide technical guidance and development through effective coaching/mentoring
Foster a multidisciplinary team environment to solve challenging thermal management system problems • Patent your inventions and develop a record of publication via conferences and peer reviewed journals
Doctorate degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related discipline with 15 years of experience
5 years experience as a principal investigator leading complex projects with multidisciplinary teams
Strong foundational knowledge in one or more relevant technical disciplines: energy systems, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, propulsion, systems engineering, and/or thermodynamics
Excellent engineering fundamentals with the critical understanding of when to apply hand calculations, modeling/simulation, and test
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Due to the nature of the work done at GE Global Research, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship
Desired Characteristics :
Experience with design, simulation, and/or testing of complex energy and power systems • Experience with aero-thermal simulations and/or testing of high-speed vehicle and/or propulsion systems
Experience with customer relations management and project management fundamentals • Familiarity with test facility design, build, and operation
Familiarity with operations/program management software
Familiarity with CAD modeling such as NX, Solidworks, etc
Familiarity with computational fluid mechanics tools such as Fluent, CFX, etc
Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C , or Java
Knowledge of model verification and validation, model calibration, and uncertainty quantification
