Job Description
Under supervision of Head of University Archives, assists in establishing intellectual and physical control of archival materials, form exhibits and outreach tools, and general archives duties. The assistant works at the reception area, offers public services, and maintains security in the UASC during public hours.
Essential Functions
Assist the Head of University Archives in processing archival collections by establishing and maintaining physical and bibliographic control over materials.
Preserve, describe, arrange and digitize materials in accordance with archives policies, and input collection information into archives software.
In conjunction with the Head of University Archives, help oversee the work of student employees and monitor the reading room during open hours and/or scheduled appointments.
Receive general requests and research questions made to the University Archives and Special Collections, forwarding them when necessary to the Head of University Archives.
Under the supervision of the Head of University Archives, responsible for assisting in the implementation of exhibits, digital exhibits, and outreach programs, including social media accounts.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two years of customer service experience.
Computer literacy, with working knowledge of MS Office, and social media platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
College degree in History or related field.
Knowledge of archives functions, including finding aids, preservation, primary source research.
Experience working in libraries, archives, and/or museums.
Familiarity with digitization projects, scanning equipment, and graphic design.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with patrons in-person and virtually.
Ability to work independently.
Excellent demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to think critically, and to process and follow complex instructions.
Ability to work with students, faculty, staff, and community.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
